BrightDrop, GM’s commercial electric vehicle business unit, announced plans Monday to expand sales of its flagship electric vans to Mexico.
The first two products coming to Mexico are the BrightDrop Zevo 400 and the BrightDrop Zevo 600, the company said.
GM did not give an exact date when customers based in Mexico could start ordering its products, only saying it would happen later this year.

“Bringing BrightDrop products to Mexico is a key step in our mission to decarbonize supplies around the world.
Helping customers reap the economic benefits of going electric,” BrightDrop Chief Commercial Officer Steve Hornyak said in a statement.
The EV business unit an ecosystem of electric and connected products and software services that launched in January 2021 is part of GM’s strategy to dominate the EV industry.
While still in its infancy, BrightDrop has managed to carve out some market share in the commercial EV fleet industry, winning orders from DHL Express, FedEx and Ryder, among others.
The company expanded its business to Canada in late 2022 with the first EV vans headed to Canada delivered in June of this year.
Production of the Zevo 600 is ramping up with the smaller Zevo 400 launching in the next few months, the company said.
To date, more than 1,000 Zevo 600 vans have been produced at the GM CAMI Assembly plant in Ontario, Canada.
The Zevo 400 will also be manufactured at the CAMI factory, which is expected to reach 50,000 deliveries per year by 2025.
BrightDrop was founded by GM in early 2021 to develop an ecosystem of electric light commercial vehicles (eLCVs), electric smart containers and the cloud.
Software designed specifically for the electrification of last-mile deliveries.
Its current range consists of three products: the Zevo 600 and Zevo 400 vans, plus an electric storage cart called Trace (eCart backward).
Since GM CEO Mary Barra initially announced the new division, it has garnered orders from transportation specialist Ryder.
Walmart and last-mile delivery giant FedEx, which called dibs on the first 500 BrightDrop deliveries, followed by an order for 1,500 more at the start the year 2022.
Shortly after the introduction of the new division, GM announced a CAD 1 billion investment to convert its CAMI manufacturing plant in Ingersoll.
Ontario to assemble its Zevo vans, which began production this December. with Zevo 600.
