Sorare teams up with the Premier League for its NFT fantasy football game
French startup Sorare has signed a four-year licensing partnership with the Premier League.
This is an important step for the company, as the English football league is one of the most watched sports leagues in the world.
Sorare is a fantasy sports gaming experience based on NFTs or non-fungible tokens.
In particular, Sorare works with many soccer leagues so it can create trading cards featuring soccer players.
BlockChain
Each card is registered as a unique token on the Ethereum blockchain. Sorare players can buy and sell cards from other players.
They can then build a lineup of five players and earn points based on actual performances.
Sorare frequently releases new cards on platforms that users can purchase and add to their personal collections – thus generating revenue for the company.
And the startup has been quite successful so far.
It raised a whopping $680 million in Serie B and has signed partnerships with many clubs and soccer organizations, including Spain’s LaLiga, Germany’s Bundesliga, and Italy’s Serie A.
The Premier League is a nice addition to that list of organizations.
With today’s new partnership with the Premier League, Sorare users will find all 20 clubs on the platform. There will also be competitions specific to individual leagues.
“The Premier League is a truly global competition and has been home to many iconic moments and players over the past 30 years.
As football fans, we have dreamed of this partnership since we founded the company,” Sorare co-founder and CEO Nicolas Julia said in a statement.
“This is a significant milestone for us as we pursue our goal of building a compelling global sports community for fans.
We are extremely proud to now have partnered with three of the biggest sports leagues in the world: the Premier League, NBA and MLB.
We’re incredibly excited and can’t wait to see fans playing with Premier League cards at our tournaments.”
As for sports fans who don’t like football, Sorare has also linked up with the NBA and MLB in recent months.
While the MLB season hasn’t started yet, Sorare’s NBA game is already alive and well. It works more or less like a fantasy football game.
On January 30, Sorare, a Parisian startup specializing in blockchain-based fantasy soccer games, announced its partnership with the Premier League, the top tier of English soccer leagues.
The collaboration will launch digital cards featuring Premier League players for the Sorare game.
Sorare’s fantasy football game is currently valued at $4.3 billion and the terms of the multi-year deal with the Premier League have not been disclosed.
However, it is estimated to be worth more than the original £30m deal that was announced in October 2022.
